Student Requirements

What every student needs to succeed in my English classes

A computer, reliable internet, and a printer keep learning smoothly and steadily. Before the first session, I will need an email that will be used for sending all the necessary handouts and worksheets. The student needs to choose the platform that is most convenient for the online class: Teams or FaceTime. If Teams is selected, the student must request an invitation. For FaceTime, the student will get connected to my phone number. In both cases, the student will be provided with my Teams ID or my phone number. Besides that, the student will have to set up a personal Google Docs file that will be shared with me.

Study Tools

Self-organization is very important in academics in general and in my class in particular. The following tools will be very helpful in keeping the student focused.

  1. A 1-inch binder will be used to collect and organize all the handouts and worksheets that will be emailed during the course. Each page or packet will be three-hole punched and placed in the binder according to the topic. Even though there is a tendency to do everything on a computer, psychology insists that when a person does editing on paper, there are more chances that knowledge will 'land' in the brain. Therefore, I strongly recommend that homework and classwork be done on paper.

  2. A computer file in which all the handouts will be collected and organized so that the student will be able to find the appropriate reference in no time.

  3. Regardless of the program, we will be using a printed or an online Merriam-Webster dictionary. (There are different editions of this dictionary depending on the age of learners.) If the student prefers to use an online version of the dictionary, he/she/they will be able to install this version on his/her/their phone, tablet, or computer. If the student doesn't want to install this dictionary on any electronic device, he/she/they can use the website merriam-webster.com.
